Islam as a comprehensive religion regulates not only individual worship but also social life, particularly family relations. One of the most discussed contemporary issues is gender equality within the family institution. Misinterpretations of Islamic teachings often lead to the assumption that Islam legitimizes gender inequality, especially in the roles of men and women in the household. This article aims to analyze the concept of family in Islam and its relationship with gender equality from Qur’anic, Hadith, and scholarly perspectives. Using qualitative library research methods, this study examines classical and contemporary Islamic sources to reveal that Islam fundamentally upholds justice, balance, and mutual responsibility between men and women. The findings indicate that Islam does not promote gender discrimination but rather contextual role differentiation based on responsibility, capacity, and social justice. Gender equality in Islam emphasizes equal dignity, rights, and spiritual worth while acknowledging functional differences in family roles. This article concludes that Islamic family values support harmonious partnerships based on cooperation, consultation, and mutual respect.
