Hubungan Perilaku Petani dengan Populasi Penggerek Batang Padi Putih (Schirpophaga innotata) Walker

Perilaku petani dalam membudidayakan tanaman padi akan mempengaruhi produksi, lingkungan dan perkembangan usahatani padi di masa yang akan datang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perilaku petani dalam melakukan usahatani padi dan hubungannya dengan populasi penggerek batang padi putih di Luwu Raya Sulawesi Selatan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survei dengan multi stage random sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik wawancara terstruktur yang dilakukan dengan cara mengajukan pertanyaan kepada responden petani yang dituangkan dalam kuesioner. Variabel yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini adalah karakteristik petani yang meliputi umur, latar belakang pendidikan, pengalaman bertani, luas dan status lahan garapan, budidaya padi yang dilakukan dan pengendalian hama tanaman yang digunakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa petani responden yang umumnya berusia produktif belum pernah mengikuti pendidikan formal di bidang pertanian dan sangat jarang mendapatkan penyuluhan atau pelatihan khususnya dalam hal budidaya padi dan pengendalian hama. Pengalaman responden bertani padi sawah lebih dari 10 tahun dengan rata-rata luas lahan 0,76 – 1 Ha. Usahatani padi mereka umumnya dilakukan dengan menggunakan irigasi teknis yang dilakukan secara monokultur tanpa pergiliran tanaman. Para petani responden ini rata-rata menggunakan benih varietas Ciherang tanpa adanya perlakuan apapun pada benih atau bibitnya. Semua petani responden menggunakan pestisida untuk mengendalikan hama karena zat ini dianggap dapat membunuh dengan cepat. Faktor yang berpengaruh nyata terhadap populasi penggerek batang padi putih adalah tingkat pendidikan, jarak tanam, dan penggunaan pupuk
